Who are we and what do we do?
Café Abundance was started by Jemma Morgan in September 2016 as a response to the food waste crisis in the UK.
Now, with the support of a team of volunteers, she runs weekly pop-up cafés, built on the principle of eating together to build community and bridge local divides such as age and socio-economic status.
We also work to educate people about how to eat healthily through the healthy meals on offer at our events, affordable 'Café Abundance Cooks' courses and providing free meals to eligible, school aged children and families through the school holidays.
Pay As You Feel
There's no such thing as a free lunch!
Although the food we use is free, we ask people to think about the value of the food they have eaten because:
It costs petrol to collect the food
It costs for freezers, fridges and space to store the food
It costs for fuel to cook the food
It costs to hire venues to run the cafés
It costs to maintain food hygiene standards
No-one has nothing to give and we value time and skills as well as money, however we connot fill the petrol tank with washer uppers , or pay the rent with compliments!
So we ask that people pause to consider the real value of what they have eaten, or how much it would have cost elsewhere, and then to
'PAY AS YOU FEEL'
The mastermind behind the operation!
Every week, mountains of fresh, edible veg is sent to landfill.
A huge part of the food waste problem is a 'best before' culture that does not reflect real shelf life of the food on our shelves.
Bread is BY FAR the single biggest waste product we deal with!

We take food waste seriously! Scraps are composted and packaging is reused or recycled where possible.
Café Abundance is a team effort - we couldn't do what we do without our volunteers!
We rely on donations to keep us running.
We believe it's as simple as this: food is precious and should not be wasted.
